Sora Schools is an accredited, fully virtual high school built on project-based learning, industry mentorship, and a genuinely different approach to secondary education. With students across 16 countries and coverage in major outlets, it was growing fast. The visual identity was sharp, the mission was clear, and the school delivered for its students.
The website wasn’t keeping up.
The challenge
Three compounding problems, one result: prospective families bouncing before the first scroll
The site was long, image-heavy, and rich with illustrated content and video testimonials — the kind of page that exposes every gap in a poorly configured setup.
The work
The technical problems and the hosting problems were connected, so they were resolved together rather than treating each as a separate job.
Performance audit and front-end optimisation. Images were compressed and converted to WebP. Render-blocking scripts were deferred. Assets were minified and consolidated. The result was measurably faster load times across the site, reflected in both real-world use and Core Web Vitals scores.
Mobile responsiveness fixes: Every breakpoint where the layout was failing was identified and corrected. Text sizing, navigation behaviour, and section structure were all addressed. On real devices, not just browser previews. The visual identity stayed intact; these were precise technical fixes, not a redesign.
Migration to AWS with S3 and caching: The site was migrated to AWS, with static assets offloaded to S3 and a robust caching layer put in place at both the server and CDN level. The new infrastructure handled traffic spikes without breaking a sweat, including the kind that follow a TechCrunch mention.
Uptime monitoring and ongoing stability: With the new infrastructure in place, uptime monitoring was configured to catch any issues before visitors did. The days of error pages during high-traffic moments were over.
